Mission Statement

The mission of the Aztec Municipal School District, as an innovative partnership with our community, is to ensure that all students develop a strong educational foundation, demonstrate a commitment to learning, strengthen their moral character, and become responsible citizens through instructional programs that challenge and inspire excellence in a safe and caring environment.

District Goals

2009 – 2010

Approved by the Aztec Board of Education May 19, 2009

1)  To continue implementing strategies to improve NMSBA scores

a)     All schools will meet the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Annual Measurable Objective (AMO) by increasing the percentage of students scoring in the proficient or advanced categories on the 2010 NMSBA in Language Arts.

b)    All schools will meet the NCLB AMO by increasing the percentage of students scoring in the proficient or advanced categories on the 2010 NMSBA in Math.

2)     To increase Relationships, Rigor and Relevance

a)     All teachers will be provided training in the Rigor and Relevance Framework and will be required to implement instructional strategies learned in training sessions as measured by:

i)      Peer observations

ii)     Principal observations

iii)    Student survey

iv)    Classroom walk-throughs

v)     Lesson Plan reviews

b)    All students will experience a personalized education as measured by:

i)      Student Surveys

ii)     Continuous improvement feedback tools

iii)    Individual Academic Plans

iv)    Student comments

v)     Peer Observations

vi)    Principal Observations

vii)   Student planners

c)     All Aztec staff will build healthy relationships with students, all other staff, parents and the community, as measured by:

i)      Surveys

ii)     Phone logs

iii)    Character Counts tickets

iv)    Classroom walkthroughs

v)      Qualitative rubric
