Aztec High School continues to shine on the national stage as its Student Council has once again been honored for its leadership, service, and dedication to student engagement. The council has been recognized as a 2025 National Gold Council of Excellence by the National Association of Student Councils (NASC), a program of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
This prestigious award places Aztec High School among an elite group of schools nationwide. It also builds on a legacy of achievement, as the council is a previous recipient of the Platinum Council of Excellence.
Leadership in Action
Over the past school year, the Aztec High School Student Council has exemplified what it means to lead with purpose. Among its many initiatives, the council organized a successful district-wide food drive, coordinated multiple blood donation events in partnership with local agencies, and hosted spirit weeks that encouraged school pride and student participation. They also launched a peer mentorship program designed to support incoming freshmen as they transition into high school.
In addition to local efforts, the council participated in regional leadership conferences, where members connected with student leaders from across the state and gained valuable skills to bring back to the Aztec community.
“The student council at Aztec High School just pulled off something extraordinary,” said NASSP CEO Ronn Nozoe. “Their student-driven change has earned them national recognition as a National Gold Council of Excellence, proving that when young people are given the chance to lead, they turn their vision into real-world impact.”
A Tradition of Excellence
To be named a National Gold Council of Excellence, a student council must meet rigorous standards. These include maintaining a written constitution, holding regular meetings, conducting democratic elections, and demonstrating a strong commitment to service and leadership development. Aztec High School has not only met these expectations—it has exceeded them year after year.
The continued success of the student council reflects the dedication of its student members, the support of faculty and staff, and a school culture that fosters leadership and community involvement.
