Hello,
This afternoon at approximately 12:00, we had a series of notifications regarding Aztec High School staff members or students who attended Aztec High School who tested positive for COVID-19.
Presently out of an abundance of caution to protect our students and staff and due to staffing impacts and the need to close rooms for cleaning we must close Aztec High School For the remainder of the day today September 23rd and all day tomorrow, September 24th. Aztec High School will resume as normal learning on Monday, the 27th.
Presently Aztec High School is working with the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) and New Mexico’s Department of Health (NMDOH) to further investigate the situation.
Protocols and procedures are in place and will be followed. We will continue to work closely with our partners with NMPED and NMDOH. Any students, families, or staff who may be affected will be contacted by school officials.
Please ensure that your students at AHS log in to their google classrooms for classwork tomorrow, Friday, September 24th.
Athletics and Activities will continue as scheduled.
We are genuinely sorry for the inconvenience. However, we are excited to have your students back in school face-to-face on the 27th.
Thank you.
We have seen a surprising increase in vandalism in our school buildings and we need you help. Please read the letter from Superintendent Summers here: https://5il.co/zgvz
Just a reminder that we our partners from Curative are available to help with COVID testing at Fred Cook Stadium.
Please see the message below from the NM Public Education Department and NM Department of Health:
The New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) and the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) are aware that certain individuals are not letting schools know when they test positive for COVID-19, and that individuals are coming to school after testing positive. This includes staff and parents visiting the school or sending their students to school after testing positive.
Please be aware that individuals refusing to self-isolate, or refusing to self-isolate their children, following a positive COVID-19 test put the health and safety of others at serious risk. Any such action will be referred to NMDOH and the New Mexico Attorney General for investigation and possible civil and criminal enforcement. Individuals who violate the Public Health Orders or Public Health Act may be subject to a fine of up to $5,000 per violation and up to six (6) months in jail.
Please help ensure the health and safety of our students and staff by reporting a refusal to following self-isolation public health orders, by contacting NMDOH at 1-833-551-0518 or by submitting your concern here: https://nmgov.force.com/pedincidentreport/s/
Please see the attached message from Chartwells, our food service partners.
Please join us on Tuesday, September 21st @ 5:30pm in the AHS Multi-purpose room for an ARP/ESSER III Consultation. AMSD will be going over the proposed plan for utilizing the states most recent ARP distribution and we would like to hear your input.
Please see the following advertisement for the Board Candidate Community Forum on Monday, September 27, 2021 from 5:30PM to 6:30PM in the Aztec High School Multipurpose room.
Children are going to hospitals at an increased rate due to rising COVID-19 transmission from the Delta variant, especially in communities with low vaccination rates. Below is a flyer from the NM DOH containing useful information for parents on steps to keep their student safe.
Additionally, the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has information that can be found here on steps you can take to keep your child safe: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/parent-faqs.html
We have had numerous questions about charging students for milk who bring lunch from home when the meal is free. The USDA reimburses Aztec Schools and the food service program for full meals served. There is no form of reimbursement for a carton of milk or other single items. The price for a carton is $.50 each. Since there is no cost reimbursement for a single item, we must continue to charge students for milk. We are not allowed to hand them out for free. We understand this may seem confusing, but it is a regulatory issue from USDA through the NM PED. Thank you for your understanding.

There is still time to register for the community vaccination clinic at AHS. Please see the attached flyer!
